LCA 3rd Fighter Interceptor Squadron

The LCA 3rd Fighter Interceptor group can be summed up in a few words……Selfless Reliable Commitment (SRC)

Description and Role

The LCA 3rd Fighter Interceptor group is a very close group of pilots who enjoy the challenges of working with our other LCA brethren to accomplish the goals laid out by our Group Commander.

The primary duty of the 3rd is to escort the Renegades and Thunder and keep them alive to and from target, and then to establish an NME fighter CAP once we reach target. These goals may be accomplished by means of close escort or forward air sweep of the target area. These roles of escort and fighter interception leverage the 3rd Fighters most prized abilities. And though not all bombers will make it to target, we are sure as hell that more would have been lost without us.

In the 3rd we like to concentrate on Air-to-Air, although we will do ground work and anti-CV work when asked, but for the most part those task are left to the Renegades and Thunder.

Ninety percent of the time when we fail to capture a base, it is because we lost fighter cap (or never gained it in the first place). It is vital to the success of our Squad that you stay alive and fighting during base takes. Venturing into the AAA must be done so with caution, because if you get sent back to the tower you're not helping us you'rer helping them!

During most NOE base takes the 3rd should not be hauling ord's. We must have the ability to climb to alt at a moments notice to deal with NME fighters. That's not something that can be done easily with most fighters while carrying and ordnance load. In addition, having to dispose of ordnance early on an NOE base take can be dangerous to yourself, and can reveal the location of your other squaddies that are still NOE and not yet detected. Good rule…..save the ords for the guys that know how to use them. You're not going to shoot down any planes with a 1000 lber, so leave it in the hanger.

Planes

Although we will use anything with an engine we have a few planes that we ask you to become especially familiar with. The planes are as follows:

Ki-84-la Great maneuverability, good for the NOE to alt pop in a hurry. Good firepower and speed.
P-38J/L Great plane for almost anything and my personal favorite.
P-51B/D Best escort plane ever. Used for speed, ords and dogfighting capabilities.
Spitfire Mk. VIII One of the best interceptors we have to choose from. Great for keeping the NME down on base takes
Bf-109 Good little planes, with speed to bleed. The G2 and K4's are good LCA base take planes for the 3rd

That covers the major planes we use. Although in the 3rd Fighter you'll never be told what plane to take, you should make yourself familiar with the ones mentioned above as we use them alot during 3rd Fighter Intercept operations.

Officers

theTBone
Commanding Officer
Tbone is a great pilot with plenty of skills in the air. Master of most ACM's, and a good shot, his flying skills are only surpassed by his personality, willingness to fight and his commitment to the LCA . Funny as hell on Vox exp when Whisky, Airdogg and PD37 are on. When these guys get going you won't stop laughing. If you haven't hear Tbone do his cat purr, then your missing out.
Hightone
Executive Officer
Hightone has emerged as one of the LCA's best organizers and leaders. He has assumed command of all LCA special events save one and has distinguished himself with aplomb. Since assuming this dauntiung responsibility, the LCA has markedly improved and its ranks have swelled. Hightone is an irreplaceable asset to the LCA and to the 3rd Fighter Interceptor.
fcMartin
Executive Officer
fcMartin is a good formation flyer and one of the best wingman I have flown with in AH. He can hold his own in a brawl and won't leave you hanging when you need him. Having fcMartin take your wing is increasing your survivability by at least 50%. Good man, good pilot and a great squaddie.
